He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother

This is my 15 years old-autistic brother, the love of our family.

If one day there is a boy sitting at your table in a restaurant, and eat your french fries, I hope you'll calm down and observe this boy for a few seconds. He may be an autistic kid
.

If your hand is suddenly grabbed by a boy while you're holding a handphone, don't shout and conclude that this kid is simply misbehaving, he maybe an autistic kid who is attracted to the light and sound.

I hope Malaysian can have more awareness on the behavior of these special kids so they're not misunderstood through excited behavior, screaming, crying, tantrums, or acts of aggression when they are out in public place.

For those of you who are reading this, I would like you to know that one of the biggest challenges about having autistic family member is not taking care of them, but dealing with the public. Whether it’s having to explain to other people or facing the judgmental stares, these are very frustrating situations for most of us to deal with.

I believe that autistic kids should not just be kept at home. My brother is an able-bodied and energetic boy who craves adventure. Like most of these special kids, outings take practice. Your tolerance, compassion and understanding help to make the world a kinder place for children with autism.
